Saturday Athletic Events

vs.
St. Andrew's School
MPrep
Win 7-0

The boys' JV soccer team beat St. Andrews 7-0 in a cold, rainy game during Parent and Family Weekend.  Senior Bart Mamro scored a hat trick in the first 25 minutes to get the Golden Knights off to a strong start. Throughout the game, Marianapolis held a strong defense, frustrating scoring hopes for the visitors. At the half, MPrep was up 3-0.  Second half goals from Jake Rice, '19, Lucas Yash, '20, and Manuel Pinto, '20, (2) helped cap off a very strong showing for Marianapolis.

vs.
MacDuffie School
MPrep
Win 4-1

The Knights came out of Parent and Family Weekend with their third win of the season, against MacDuffie School, on Saturday. The team went down 1-0 after a penalty was converted by their opponents. The first half saw few chances for both teams. At halftime the Knights pulled it together and began to charge forward. Ethan Gosper, '20, led the way with a goal off of a free kick at the sixtieth minute mark. A few moment later Gosper created a chance that allowed Jared O'Connor, '20, to put the Knights' second away. At the seventy-minute mark Syhyoung Lee put in a goal off of a corner kick, again from Ethan Gosper, giving some insurance to the Knights. A final goal came from Kristian Mena Correa, '21, at the eighty-fifth minute mark. Colby Pion, '20, provided the assist. Overall the Knights had a great second half, after a troubled first half. A 4-1 victory will give the Knights confidence as they look forward to traveling to Wilbraham and Munson Academy on Wednesday. Ryan Martin, '21, had seven saves for the day. Man of the Match was Ethan Gosper. Well done, Knights!

vs.
MacDuffie School
MPrep
Win 2-0

The Golden Knights came out strong vs. MacDuffie and took a 10-1 lead in the first set. Kaiyin Li, '20, had 6 strong serves to start the set, and closed out the first set with another 5 impressive serves. The second set proved to be a little harder with the score being close, and the Knights being down 23-19. Sofia Hargrave, '21,  had an impressive 5 serves that proved to be too much for MacDuffie to handle, and the Knights battled hard to win an exciting last point to take the 2nd set 25-23, which led them to an overall 2-0 victory!

In first for the boys team and second overall was Sal Mascarelli '21 with a time of 17:56. In second for the team and third overall was Zach Stoddard '22 with a time of 19:09. Chase Courville '19 was third and placed sixth with a time of 19:27, Riley Martin '21 was fourth and placed 10th with a time of 21:22, and Spencer Courville '22 was fifth and placed 11th with a time of 21:36.

vs.
Worcester Academy
MPrep
Tie 2-2

The Lady Knights had a great game vs Worcester Academy on Saturday. Both teams fought valiantly and were evenly matched for most of the first half ending with a 0-0 score at the half.

The Knights came out strong in the second half with Freshmen Gabby Fung putting the first goal on net giving the Knights a 1-0 lead to start the half.  Worcester Academy would answer with a goal to make it tied at 1-1 early in the second half.  Freshman Ashley Giorgio put the second goal in for the Knights to once again gain the lead for a score of 2-1.

However, again Worcester was able to even the score. The match ended at a 2-2 tie.

The JV squad looks forward to their next game in one week.

vs.
Portsmouth Abbey
MPrep
Win 3-2

The boys' IIIs squad had their third contest against Portsmouth Abbey on Saturday. Falling to this team last year in the final minutes of last year's match animated this year's matchup, ending in a positive result: a 3-2 win. Every single member of the team played incredibly well. The team that played today is miles and miles beyond the team that debuted against Rectory this season. The guys communicated and passed well, maintaining possession for long periods of time, and won 50-50 balls. The first goal was scored by Keegan McLeod ’22 off of a missed shot that rebounded. He got into a good position and made a great touch to send it into the back of the net to give MPrep its first lead. The second goal came from Mauricio Perez ’21 off of a beautiful cross that he finessed passed the goalie. Captain Ben Kules ’20, ripped a beautiful shot into the upper left hand side of the net from inside the 18’ to make it 3-1, the eventual game winner. A few other highlights include Timmy Hall ’22 winning and keeping possession on defense all game and filling in as a goalie. Pat Martineau ’22, was a machine on defense, playing aggressively and stopping many Portsmouth runs. Captain Connor McLeod ’21 was also willing to get dirty and stopped a few breakaways and provided good protection for our goalie. Charlie Shamback ’22 and Declan O’Connor, '22 played very smart offense and were especially crafty, making for a strong midfield and giving many chances to our forwards. Goalie Conor Allen ’21, played very well yet again, even saving three shots off of a penalty kick before the opponents finally scored. Across the board the players left it all on the field and gave everything they had. Coach Smith and Coach Hendrickson are once again, incredibly proud of their team and are pleased to see how much progress they've made and how they continue to represent ourselves on the field.

vs.
Bancroft School
MPrep
Loss 3-2

Marianapolis dropped a Saturday heartbreaker at home vs. Bancroft School, 3-2.

Set one saw MPrep a little slow on its feet after a lights out start from senior captain and first server M. Webber. The Knights let one opposing server slow their defensive flow, and the set ended 25-20.

It was clear the match would be a fight in set two. M. Wall '20 and R. Jalbert' 19 combined for 13 of the team's service points, while J. Golden '20 and C. King '21 were dynamic at the middle offense. Set two was an extra point loss for the Knights, 27-25.

The tide turned in set three, as MPrep played their game patiently and effectively. Senior captains anchored the squad, with L. Madden '19 dynamic behind the line and J. Madden' 19 relentless on tip coverage. Set three ended 25-11.

Set four involved more nail biting. K. Heney '19, Wall and King were the serving stars, while the coverage of short, unpredictable returns from Bancroft kept it tight. MPrep forced set five at 25-23.

Set five ended as close as possible: 15-13. The Knights witnessed tremendous collaborative efforts and strong back row play. King was particularly instrumental, pulling the team back within 1 after Bancroft started to pull away. Ultimately, the team suffered the 3-2 L together.

Ethel Walker is next on the docket for MPrep, who travels this Wednesday.

vs.
"Eagle Hill, Montrose & Portsmouth Abbey", Portsmouth Abbey, Eagle Hill School
MPrep
Other 2nd Place

On October 13th Marianapolis hosted Hyde, Portsmouth Abbey and Eagle Hill for parent and family weekend.

In first for the girls team and first overall was Sydney Masciarelli '21 with a time of 17:33. Rachel Ullstrom '21 was second and placed third overall with a time of 23:06, followed by Olivia Panagiotou '19 in sixth with a time of 25:31, Molly Romprey '19 in 13th with a time of 28:92, and Sarah Zhang '20 in 17th place with a time of 30:52.

vs.
Portsmouth Abbey
MPrep
Loss 7-0

The Golden Knights took on Portsmouth Abbey Saturday on Parent and Family Weekend. The girls played a strong game. Sophomore goalie Tola Ajayi-Obe had 7 saves, and sophomore goalie Lily Givner had 1. Freshman Felicia Fongemie had an active game moving the ball up and down the field. Senior Jill Ormerod played a great game at deep midfield and helped make some great saves. The Knights are learning more with each game they play and are becoming better players. We are excited to have such a great group of girls playing a game they love! We will use our off week to practice skills and keep learning.

vs.
Worcester Academy
MPrep
Loss 2-0

The girls’ varsity soccer team fell to Worcester Academy with a final score of 2-0. The Knights had some moments of good soccer, but for the most part were out hustled by the Hilltoppers. Despite an overall disappointing outing, A. Morrison had another standout performance in goal, while L. Cashman ‘19 and E. Pickett ‘19 played great for the entire 80 minutes. Additionally, J. Solis ‘19 and S. Rabitor ‘22 deserve special mention for their effort off the bench. Both showed incredible heart and made the most of their time on the field. Despite the disappointing outcome, the team looks ahead to next week when they will host Ethel Walker on Wednesday at 3pm.
