Soccer - Boys' IIIs

This season, the Boys' IIIs team demonstrated perseverance and hard work throughout.  Focus and discipline at practice were essential to individual and team improvement between games.  A win streak early in the season can be credited to this determination from each member of the team to work together and to get better. With a small team, each individual player was important throughout the season, and all of our team members played with grit and toughness.  Our team hustled throughout the season and what we lacked in the number of substitutes we more than made up for in hustle.  After a last-minute loss in our first game, we took three straight.  Captains B. Kules, '20, and D. Kim, '20, anchored the team, occupying the space on the field that they were most needed and taking advantage of their experience, leading our young team during each contest.  P. Martineau, '22, T. Hall, '22, K. McLeod, '22, M. Tomasino, '22, and T. Huynh, '21, were among the new crop of players who impressed this season with their work ethic, maturity, and love of the game.  Even in the toughest loss of the season, a late decision against Pomfret in the penultimate game of the season, the team played hard until the moments of the closing whistle.  The team ended 3-4, improving on last year's 2-7-2 sheet.  Coach Smith and Coach Hendrickson are very proud of the team and are looking forward to next fall.

Record: 2-4

  • Fs 13208Theodore Smith
    Head Coach
Theodore Smith teaches Humanities and Comparative Religions, coaches thirds soccer and JV golf, and is on the residential duty team in St. John’s. When he began his studies at Holy Cross he had planned on studying History. Professor Matt Eggemeier, who taught Love & The Prophetic Imagination as part of Mr. Smith’s freshman seminar course, introduced him to theology and philosophy in such a way that it changed the direction of his study to cover those fields. Outside of Marianapolis, Mr. Smith is a certified umpire in the state of CT and also plays with his band, The Hayward Shine Band, and a group based out of New Hampshire called Black Agnes. He has twin older brothers Jake and Jordie, who also teach theology, (Jake at Marianapolis), and a younger brother Tim.
  • 120ihjmq0dPeter Hendrickson
    Assistant Coach

Peter Hendrickson is in his first year at Marianapolis.  Originally from Minnesota, he has been a sports fan his whole life.  As a Peace Corps volunteer in Guatemala, he frequently played soccer with his students.  He is looking forward to being an assistant coach of the boys' IIIs soccer team in the fall and the ultimate team (another sport he learned during his Peace Corps years) in the spring.
