Soccer - Boys' IIIs
Marianapolis Boys Thirds Soccer team fought hard under tough circumstances this fall. The roster included 12 players for most of the season which led to some pretty physically challenging games for the team including several games in which the team played with 11 or fewer. Regardless, the guys came to every game ready to work and the coaches are proud of the effort they put forth. The team opened the season with a 1-3 loss to a tough opponent in Suffield, having held a great 1-1 tie until the last 15 minutes of the second half. The following game was a 0-2 loss to Pomfret, a loss that manifested in the last 10 minutes. The Thirds guys fought every minute as hard and with as much hustle as every team they played. Perhaps the toughest loss came against Eaglebrook. Ties against Concord, Hopkins, and Portsmouth Abbey and a win against Eagle Hill were strong points of the season. The game of the season was the game against Hopkins. MPrep took an early 1-0 lead and then they tied it up at the end of the first half. Early in the second half they quickly scored two more and took a 3-1 lead. As per the theme this year, the team never gave up and scored twice more to tie it right before the final whistle, a testament to the fortitude the guys brought to the field each day. Though the coaches would love to have any of these guys back for another season, they know some of them must move on to the higher level next year where they can continue to hone their skills as they make their way to the varsity level.
Coach Smith and Coach Buoniconti are very proud of these guys and are looking forward to next fall.
