Golf - Co-Ed Varsity
The Marianapolis Golden Knights season started off with a tie against Bancroft and the squad never fully recovered, falling to a record of 0-5-1. Low scores and victories continued to elude the Knights as they traveled to Maine but finished in last place in the EIL Championship. Despite this dismal record, the team did enjoy very pleasant weather and a fantastic home course to play and practice on. The team was led by four-year starter and senior captain Elena Spange in the # 1 spot. Elena demonstrated tremendous leadership at the beginning of the year and was a great help to her coaches and teammates. She worked tirelessly to help the other golfers and always played hard and showed a true love for the game of golf. Alex Litke, '22, won the most matches for the team and therefore garnered the Best Performer Award. We look forward to great things from him next season and he should lead the team in wins again as he enters his junior year. The Top Newcomer Award went to Michael Hanrahan, '20, as he rocketed from the JV team last year to the # 4 position on varsity this year. He showed solid determination and a smart approach this year by practicing more diligently and thoroughly while also managing his matches in a more clever manner. The coaches would also like to thank seniors Will Engle (# 5 man), Panachai Chauychoo Zack Willard, Gilbert Fournier and Ben Daggett for their commitment to this year's team. All five of these gregarious seniors made all the practice rounds a great deal of fun, maybe the most fun the two old grizzled veteran coaches have had at golf practices over these many years. Next year's seniors Phil Heney (# 6 man), who showed grit and resilience in all of his matches, Colby Jacobs, and Pat Brooks will be called upon to take over the reins and bring success to the 2020 campaign next fall. They will need to be strenuously supported by freshmen Campbell (Megan) Braun and Nicholas Boligan.
