Varsity Wrestling 42-21 Eagle Hill School; 48-12 Worcester Academy
Marianapolis varsity wrestling secured two home wins in a tri-meet on Wednesday over Eagle Hill School (42-21) and Worcester Academy (48-12). The two wins effectively end the Golden Knights' team season, as they will send three individuals to New England's this weekend.
Senior captain Alex Stawiecki was honored on senior night and won via pin in his final varsity match over his Eagle Hill opponent. The win brings Stawiecki's season record to 26-11. Junior captain Andre Looney also got to win via pin to move to 23-8 on the season. They will travel with sophomore Johnna Romanek to Hartford this weekend to wrestle in the New England Championships.
In front of a raucous home crowd, the Knights started off hot with six pins in the first seven matches to take a commanding lead over Eagle Hill. Freshman Lucas Rhodes, Looney, junior Evan Lundt, sophomores Spencer Courville, Szymon Mamro and junior Brendan Donegan had the pins. In the second match against Worcester Academy, the Knights got three pins including Romanek's first of the season and a second for Mamro and Donegan.
The home meet, the Knight's only of the season, was a fitting end to a competitive and encouraging year. Coaches Miller and Schäfer look forward to all but Stawiecki returning next year and challenging for top spot in the EIL tournament.
