Loss 43-31
Elijah Edwards scored a game-high 15 points as Northfield Mount Hermon handed Marianapolis its first defeat of the season with a 43-31 win on Saturday afternoon in Thompson, CT. Despite a suffocating defense designed to slow him down throughout, Edwards was able to get free just enough to turn a second-half deficit into a somewhat comfortable win. Lucas Yash '20 led the Golden Knights (3-1) with 11 points, while fellow co-captains Danny Moors '20 and Ryan Martin '20 chipped in with six points each. Marianapolis struggled to get any rhythm in the halfcourt offense against a strong NMH man-to-man defense. In addition, the Golden Knights went 6-21 from the free throw line, which significantly hampered the comeback attempt. Excellent defense, especially from Connor Murray '20 and Ethan Gosper '20, led to a low-scoring affair in the first half. NMH scored the last five points of the half to take a 14-11 lead into the locker room. Marianapolis rallied at the start of the second half, as Elan Johnson '23 made a couple of key shots, to give the Golden Knights a 20-19 lead with about ten minutes remaining. But Edwards finally found some space, propelling Northfield to a 18-6 run that extended their lead to 37-26. Marianapolis had one final rally, cutting the lead to 37-31 with one minute to go, but could get no closer. The coaches are proud of the tremendous effort displayed throughout against the seasoned and tough-minded squad from Northfield. Marianapolis will play them again on January 25th. The Golden Knights look to get back in the win column Wednesday afternoon at Pomfret School. Tip time is 3:00 PM.
