Win 3-1

The Marianapolis varsity volleyball team earned its first W of the season against MA foe MacDuffie, 3-1.

J. Calkins '21 led the team with a light touch and dominant serving at the outset of the first contest. B. Rett' 21 and C. King '21 were equally consistent from the line, and King was particularly rock-solid in the 4. Although the MacDuffie offense posted a few loud points, MPrep won 25-23.

The unpredictable pacing of set one left MPrep on its heels for set two. Senior captains J. Golden and C. Gardiner threw down four kills each, and Rett posted 7 in a row from the service line. But set two was a loss, 25-18.

Set three was a different story, with coordinated teamwork and effective attacks. A. Boria '21 added two kills and an ace, while King and Gardiner added six aces among them. Golden had big hands at the net that helped lead the squad to 25-19 victory.

Set four was MPrep's from the outset, with M. Walsh '20 and L. Lemire '23 coordinating excellent digs and net play. King was the story of the match, with 6 service points and relentless back and front row swings. MPrep brought home the road win with a 25-12 fourth set victory.

The .500 team will take on local rival Pomfret away on Wednesday. Go Knights!
