Loss 3-0

The varsity volleyball team lost 3-0 in its home opener versus Cushing. The team made phenomenal adjustments after last-minute changes due to injury, and integrated a 5:1 rotation seamlessly in their first full contest of the season.

Junior A. Boria and senior captain J. Golden led the team behind the service line in set one, while senior captain C. Gardiner was rock solid in the 6. Senior M. Walsh was a standout defensively as well. Cushing was able to compile three short serving runs that allowed the pull-away mid-game; set one finished 25-15.

Senior captain and setter M. Wall was the go-to in set two, keeping the veterans on pace for attacks from the 10' line. Boria continued to dominate serving (stringing together 6 key service points) as well as handle back row digs with finesse. J. Calkins '21 kept big hands on the net and Y. Osborne '20 was agile throughout the rotation; MPrep integrated newcomer L. Lemire '23 at the 3 as well. MPrep posted a loud 18 points in its second set effort.

Set three saw strong serving from Gardiner after an MPrep drought, attentive play from S. Hargrave '21, and clutch defense from libero C. Fleming, '21. Although Golden knocked down a few loud kills, the Marianapolis offense couldn't answer the consistent, dynamic serving from Cushing's back line. 25-15 was the third set final.

The varsity squad will rebound to take on MacDuffie on the road this Saturday. Go Knights!
