Rodrigo Torre '21 and Yaozhong "Evan" Hu '19 won a thrilling match at third doubles for Marianapolis, but it wasn't enough to overcome the strong and consistent play of Bancroft on a beautiful day for tennis in Worcester, MA. The Bulldogs were able to defeat the Golden Knights by a final of 5-2.
Torre and Hu worked well together in practice this week and were able to replicate that positive teamwork on the courts today. A back-and-forth match saw the Golden Knights' duo trailing 7-6, before Torre held serve to even things at 7-7. After an impressive break of serve for 8-7, Hu served it out for a hard-fought 9-7 triumph.
At fourth singles, Zilun "Oliver" Qiu '19 continued an impressive season with an 8-6 win over a gritty opponent from Bancroft. Qiu could not find his strokes early in the match and, as a result, found himself down 4-1. But he rallied in the late stages and completed the comeback with a strong service break.
The Golden Knights (1-8 overall) look to finish the season on a positive note with a couple of matches remaining on the schedule.
