St. Andrew's School swept the doubles in impressive fashion to help them defeat Marianapolis by a team score of 6-1 on a beautiful but blustery day in Barrington, Rhode Island.  The Saints trotted out four very solid players who countered the Golden Knights shots at almost every turn.

In singles, Marianapolis (1-5) struggled to find its footing against a barrage of bullet serves and well-placed volleys.  But in the last match of the afternoon, Zilun "Oliver" Qiu '19 engaged in a lengthy struggle against an opponent who was his equal in many ways.  A back-and-forth affair ramped up in intensity with Qiu trailing 7-6.  He held serve quickly to get even at 7-7, broke to go ahead 8-7, and then had two match points to potentially finish the match 9-7.  However, his opponent came up with an amazing return on one of the match points to eventually break back and force a tiebreaker.

In the breaker, Qiu did just enough to earn a 7-4 result and the only point for the Golden Knights.  Qiu is 3-3 on the season and has demonstrated a lot of grit in some pressure-packed situations.

The Golden Knights have a bit of a respite before taking to the courts again on Wednesday, April 24 at Concord Academy.
