Marianapolis Varsity Ultimate took a tough 5-13 loss at the hands of Concord Academy at home on Friday. The loss drops the Knights to 0-2 to start the season.
The Knights were able to keep it close early, capitalizing on Concord turnovers and running some smooth offense. But once tired legs started to kick in, Concord had the extra step and built a 5-point halftime lead. The second half showcased better intensity, especially on defense, for Marianapolis, but it was ultimately not enough to overcome the deficit.
Senior Cole McGovern brought home Man of the Match honors for his defensive work and being a factor in all of the Knights’ points with 4 goals and an assist. Senior captain Maxwell Hayes tallied 4 assists and fellow senior Rafael Fauxbel added the last point. Fauxbel, Hayes, juniors Zachary Atwood and Nick Basley had 3 defensive blocks each.
Marianapolis returns to action on Friday at defending state champions Middletown High School.
