Basketball - Girls' Junior Varsity
It was Senior Day for the Girls' JV Basketball Team. Seniors Kelly Heney, Rose Laconto and Caitlyn Miller were honored by their coaches and teammates leading up to the start of the game.
The JV Knights demonstrated their tenacity and teamwork in their final game of the season against Rectory. Despite being behind 17-10 at the half, the Knights persevered and obtained a well deserved win.
The beginning of the game was challenging for the Knights as Rectory quickly earned points in their first couple of possessions. It took the Knights the first few minutes to adjust their defense and put some points on the scoreboard. Jill Reardon '21 made a basket in the paint as did senior Rose Laconto. Rose had several opportunities at the line, earning 7 points overall. Senior Caitlyn Miller had a key 3 point shot and Jenna Olivieri '21 contributed points as well as key rebounds and plays during both halves.
The Knights, led by Captain and senior Kelly Heney, motivated one another and came out strong in the second half. They made up the point difference due to key plays and a strong defensive front. Cass Belsito '22 earned 14 points in the second half. Jill Reardon '21 contributed 6 points in the paint and Kylie Miller '21 added 8 points to the scoreboard, including two 3 point shots. Elizabeth Walker '22 assisted with key plays as a center in the paint. It was a true team effort as each individual contributed to the win. Ultimately the Knights came away with their highest scoring game of the season, earning 43 points against Rectory's 36 points.
What a great way to end the season! The coaches are extremely proud of these players and thank the seniors for their leadership and hard work this year. Great work Knights!
