Basketball - Girls' Varsity
The Golden Knights came out the gates a little slow against a fired up New Hampton team. Multiple transition 3 pointers by the huskies, along with some calls that went against the Knights, saw New Hampton gain a double digit lead early into the first half. With just under five minutes to play in the first half, the Knights had some good defensive stops, and some great team offense that saw them cut the deficit to 12 going into half time.
The Knights came out during the second half ready to go. Within four minutes the Knights had tied the score at 37-37. Great defensive stops by Rachel Ullstrom and Kara O’Neil teamed with some big offensive plays by Senior Olivia Summiel allowed the Knights to go on a run of their own and gain the momentum of the game.
New Hampton rallied back, and with just 37 seconds left to play the Knights found themselves down 58-54.
A great team execution of a play out of a timeout, led by a pass from Senior Chyna Bullen to Sophomore, Sydney Masciarelli gave the Knights a spark they needed.
Senior, Olivia Summiel connected on a huge 3 pointer to take the lead 61-58, followed by two clutch free throws by Senior, Kara O’Neil to end the game with a 63-58 win!
Sophomore, Sydney Masciarelli led all scorers with 21 points, followed by Senior, Olivia Summiel with 20 points, and Sophomore, Rachel Ullstrom added 12 points.
