The wrestling team travelled to St. Mark’s for a trimeet with Portsmouth Abbey and St. Mark’s. Despite being outnumbered the Golden Knights showed a lot of heart and several wrestlers noticed their first wins of the year.
The meet with St. Mark’s ended with Marianapolis on the losing end of a 60-12 score but Junior Alex Staweicki came up big at 170 with a huge first period pin to get his first win of the year while Cam Alicandro continued his strong season with another pin to raise his record to 5-1 on the season. Syzmon Mamro (152) and Andre Looney showed amazing fight in their bouts but did not manage to end up on top at the end.
After wrestling St. Mark’s the wrestling team turned around an immediately wrestled Portsmouth Abbey. Cam Alicandro picked up a forfeit at 120 followed by a huge win by Andre Looney at 126. After a forfeit at 132 for Evan Lundt and a double forfeit at 138, Brendan Donegan (145) pulled off an amazing second period pin to raise the score to 24-0 Knights. Syzmon Mamro (152) and Ryan Zhou (160) had exciting bouts but failed to beat their opponents and allowed Portsmouth Abbey 12 points. Alex Staweicki faced the PAS captain and wrestled hard for a full 6 minutes only to fall 7-0 and bring the score to 24-15. With the forfeits Portsmouth Abbey tallied at the upper weights because the Knights had no competitors there the final score ended up 33-24. What an exciting and action packed meet.
