Loss 56-64

Despite 18 points from Danny Moors '20 and a furious rally late in the second half, Marianapolis fell 64-56 to Beaver Country Day School in Chestnut Hill, MA.

It was the first road loss of the season for the Golden Knights (8-2 overall)

Marianapolis seemed to sleepwalk through the first half, missing a ton of shots that are normally made.  Some poor defensive closeouts also contributed to a 29-17 deficit at the half.

Beaver Country Day proved to be a very skilled and unselfish team that worked the ball around until getting open shots, many of which they drained.  But Marianapolis switched from zone to man-to-man in the second half and chipped away at what had ballooned to a 19-point advantage.  Moors, Ehmil Johnson '21, and Lucas Yash '20 all hit clutch three-pointers as the lead slowly but inexorably was whittled down, until a layup off the press by Kualim Johnson '21 cut the deficit to 57-53 with 40 seconds remaining.

However, just when a miracle finish looked possible, Beaver's point guard buried a big three-pointer to stifle the last hope for the Golden Knights.  The team could have obviously played better - and smarter - but could not have played harder, especially during the desperate second-half rally.

Marianapolis has a quick turnaround for a 4:45 PM game Tuesday at The Rectory School, a formidable opponent in the area.
