The wrestling team hosted their last home meet of the year as Hopkins School, Marvelwood School and Concord Academy traveled to Thompson for a quad meet.
The grapplers first faced off against Hopkins but fell 47-18 to a much larger more experienced team. The Golden Knights spotted the opponents 30 points due to forfeits and rallied during the contested matches. Cam Alicandro continued his strong season with another first period pin at 120 while Alex Stawiecki fought through several tough points to lose by technical fall to an undefeated opponent at 170. Ryan Zhou, Evan Lundt and Syzmon Mamro also fought hard against experienced competition but fell short. Every match shows improvement for this young team.
After that tough loss to Hopkins the wrestlers moved right into a meet against Marvelwood. With two small teams the matchups were going to determine the winner and in this case the matches favored Marvelwood as they won 28-18. Only four weights were contested and Mrvelwood managed to win three of those. The highlight of the match was Ryan Zhou’s first period pin while up a weight class to 160 lbs but Alex Stawiecki proved how tough he is again during a hard fought 10-1 loss at 170.
The last bout of the day was against a young and hungry Concord Academy team. The Knights again spotted the opposition 36 points in weight classes they could not fill but won two of the three contested weight classes only to fall 42-24. Alex Stawiecki’s come from behind pin in the final period at 170 was the highlight of the entire quad meet. The crowd really went crazy as he secure the win. Ryan Zhou also finished a solid day by finally wrestling at his natural weight class of 152 and pinning his opponent.
