On Sunday evening, the Marianapolis Knights traveled to Babson College to compete in the Scholar Roundball Classic against Class AA’s Brimmer and May.
The Knights were reeling from a close, lackluster victory against Millbrook, and were determined to show more energy in this contest. They brought a consistent aggression and intensity throughout the game. Brimmer had a great deal of length and athleticism, but the Knights’ entire roster battled in the paint and on the boards. They matched length with strength and determination, and built a 28-20 halftime lead. Senior Jared Ullstrom had a particularly strong first half, racking up 7 points and 4 offensive rebounds.
The second half saw no decrease in effort from MPrep, but they did have a less assertive shot selection. Throughout the frame, they settled for three-point shots, which simply didn’t fall. Their defense wasn’t able to find the same success that it had in the first, and the Knights lost first the lead and then the game, 53-46.
With the loss, Marianapolis falls to 3-2, and 1-1 in Class B.
