Ehmil Johnson '21 and Danny Moors '20 each scored 16 points to help Marianapolis fend off Governor's Academy 59-40 in the first road test for the Golden Knights since before Christmas break.
Lucas Yash '20 and Kualim Johnson '21 combined for 15 points to help with the secondary scoring in a game where Marianapolis consistently enjoyed a somewhat comfortable lead but could never extend until the final few minutes.
Moors played his best game of the season, driving to the basket with controlled energy and hitting two big three-pointers. Johnson continued his excellent play on both ends of the court, especially in the first half where his early scoring binge got Marianapolis going in the right direction. The lead was 30-18 at the break.
In the second half, strong defense from Ryan Martin '20 and a couple of nice inside moves from Kualim Johnson countered every run from Governor's. Moors coast-to-coast layup with about four minutes remaining put all doubt to rest.
The bench produced some outstanding minutes in this contest for the Golden Knights (8-1 overall). Sean-Patrick Houssan '21, Aidan Cook '20, Connor Murray '20, and Ethan Bibeau '20 all got into the scoring column.
Marianapolis looks for another road conquest on Monday at Beaver Country Day School.
