Kualim Johnson '21 scored 19 points and Ehmil Johnson '21 added 13 as Marianapolis steadily pulled away in the second half for an impressive 60-42 win over MacDuffie in the second home game of the season for the Golden Knights.
Ryan Martin '20 played his most well-rounded game, scoring 11 points while grabbing many key rebounds. Senior co-captain Luke Lageman also delivered a phenomenal effort on both ends of the floor, combining an intense defensive presence with a host of offensive rebounds.
Marianapolis jumped out to a 7-0 lead in the first two minutes before MacDuffie countered with a 16-4 run to take a five-point lead on a number of fast-break opportunities. The back-and-forth first half ended with a one-handed fall-away circus three-pointer by Ehmil Johnson that just beat the buzzer for the slight advantage.
In the second half, a small change to the zone defense clogged up the middle to great effect; and, a three-pointer by Martin midway through the half extended the lead to 12. A perfectly-executed fast break from Martin to Danny Moors '20 to Ehmil Johnson proved to be the final blow and the Golden Knights coasted from there for the 18-point win.
Marianapolis continues its home stand Saturday in a rematch against Northfield Mount Hermon.
