Win 3-1

The varsity volleyball team won a hard-fought contest at home against league rival Wilbraham & Monson Saturday with a 3-1 finish.

In set one, the Knights relied upon consistent sets from J. Calkins '21, amazing dives from K. Heney '19, and aggressive middle hits from C. King '21. It was a back-and-forth match until senior captain M. Webber toed the line on the second rotation through. She effectively put the match away with an unanswered 7 service points, leading the squad to a 25-17 W.

Set two saw J. Golden '20 get in on the action from the service line as well as the 3, including putting away four critical service points after 20. J. Madden '19 was rock solid in the back row, while Heney got the offense fired up from outside. 25-23 was the set two finish.

The Knights let W&M get ahead early in set three, and this was costly for the girls. B. Rett '21 pushed great sets to hitters front and back,  Webber was electric from the serving line, while the middle blocks were fierce and frequent. But Marianapolis couldn't overcome a late run from W&M, and set three ended 25-23.

MPrep doesn't pull out a win in set four without its seniors. L. Madden posted two critical serving runs for the team, while remaining rock solid as a veteran setter in the 2. King and Golden found lights-out hitting opportunities alongside J. Madden in the 4. And the girls played behind from point one but were relentless at attacking the W&M defense and shaking off their hard-hitting offense. At 24-24, Heney toed the line and rocketed two unanswered points to win the game 26-24.

The team plays its senior game at home on Wednesday. Go Knights!
