Volleyball - Girls' Varsity
The Marianapolis varsity volleyball team brought home its first season victory today, returning from Portsmouth Abbey 3-0.
Set one was marked by strong serving and consistent rallies from the Knights. Senior captains M. Webber, J. Madden, and L. Madden led the team in serving, with L. Madden closing out the set with the final points. Although Portsmouth Abbey kept things close, the starting rotation of K. Heney '19, J. Golden' 20, M. Wall '20, and C. King' 21 pushed hard to solidify a first set W, 25-17.
Set two was equally tight, with Wall and Heney leading MPrep in service points. C. Gardiner '20 fueled the offense with much needed late-game momentum, and J. Calkins' 21 pushed out fantastic sets to the attackers, helping clinch set two 25-19.
B. Rett '21 and R. Jalbert '19 were instrumental to the set three rotation, including a service run from Jalbert to pull ahead midgame. Y. Osborne '20 pushed the ball in front of the 10' line at critical junctures, while sophomores C. Fleming and A. Boria steeled the defense against several Portsmouth Abbey rallies. It was the tightest set of the match, but L. Madden executed flawless extra-point serving to seal the deal at 27-25.
Kingswood Oxford is next on the schedule, as the Knights look towards Wednesday for the first of three contests next week. Go Knights!
