Worcester, MA 01604
The Marianapolis varsity field hockey team traveled to Worcester Academy for their historic first game. From the first whistle, the Knights played with excitement, courage, and pride. The left side of the field consisting of junior Andie Lee, sophomore Grace McGovern, and freshman Felicia Fongemie played a very strong game working well together to move the ball up the field. Sophomore goalie Lily Givner had 8 saves in the first half. The Knights ended the half down 0-6. The second half saw a more calm and collected group of players that communicated, played tough defense, and put pressure on the Worcester defense. Junior Jocelyn Nguyen had the first ever Marianapolis field hockey goal with a beautiful shot in the bottom left corner of the goal off a terrific pass from freshman Cassandra Belsito. The defense, including sophomore goalie Tola Ajayi-Obe held the Rams to a scoreless second half finishing the game 1-6. The Knights put forth a tremendous effort in their first game and showed that they have great potential. Their next game is on Saturday at Kingwood-Oxford.
