Volleyball - Girls' Varsity
The Golden Knights dropped 3 sets to Pomfret in its opening contest at home. Set one started with MPrep on its heels against dynamic Pomfret serving. Answering from behind the line were seniors M. Webber and L. Madden along with J. Madden at the net. The ladies were in front of the ball on hitting attempts, however, so the girls' net play couldn't trump Pomfret's offense. MPrep dropped the first set 25-19.
Twelve was the unfortunate number for Marianapolis in set two; a dominant Pomfret server went on a run that stifled MPrep's louder attacks from the 10' line. Sophomore libero A. Boria and junior setter M. Wall were crucial in helping to break up that run, but the outcome arrived quickly: Pomfret 25-8.
Although the Knights saw big blocks from middle J. Golden '20 and aggressive play all around from middle Webber, Pomfret chipped away at the MPrep defense with deep hits to the back line. 25-10 was the final set score for the ladies today.
Marianapolis hosts Suffield Academy at home next Wednesday with an eye on bouncing back. Go Knights!
