Bridget O'Leary '18 Honored with Six Silver Keys by the Scholastic Writing Awards


Senior Bridget O’Leary of Rochdale, MA was recently awarded six Silver Keys by The Scholastic Writing Awards (North-East Region-At-Large). 

She received Silver Keys for each piece in the following categories:

Personal Essay and Memoir: “The Science of Magic”

Poetry: “Love is Dead”

Fantasy and Science Fiction: “The Sirens' Call,” “Ad Astra,” “The Hill”

Writing Portfolio: “Words of Fire”

The Scholastic Art & Writing Awards are presented by the Alliance for Young Artists & Writers. The Alliance identifies “students with exceptional artistic and literary talent and present their remarkable work to the world through the Scholastic Art & Writing Awards. Through the Awards, students receive opportunities for recognition, exhibition, publication, and scholarships.” 



Julia DiNoia '18 Honored at Connecticut Regional Scholastic Art Awards

Senior Julia DiNoia of Thompson, CT was recently honored by the Connecticut Art Education Association at the annual Connecticut Regional Scholastic Art Awards.

Julia received two Silver keys for her photographs “Shower of Sadness” and “Psyched,” and an Honorable Mention for her photograph “Shattered Vision.” The Scholastic Art Awards is the largest juried student art competition in the state. Student artwork is juried by professional artists and university art faculty and is selected on merit for inclusion in astatewide art exhibition held at the Hartford Art School. This year, artwork was selected from approximately 2500 entries, with 259 Gold key awards, 197 Silver keys and 225 Honorable Mentions.

Julia’s artwork, alongwith pieces from throughout the state, will be displayed in the regional gallery show at the Silpe Gallery on the University of Hartford campus. The show runs until February 2, and is open for public viewing Monday - Friday 9 a.m. - 4:00 p.m and weekends 12:00 noon - 4:00 p.m.
