On September 21, Marianapolis participated in World Cleanup Day, organized by the Green Knights and NOSB (National Ocean Sciences Bowl).
The purpose of World Cleanup Day is to raise awareness in our community, encouraging people to care about the environment. The idea to bring it to Marianapolis was proposed by Nhi “Rosa” Nguyen ’20, the president of NOSB. On World Cleanup Day, the Green Knights and NOSB collected recyclables from the community including plastic bottles, cans, glasses, and cardboard. They sorted all of the recyclables, which will be reused in different ways. In total, they collected over 780 pounds of recyclables. By collecting these materials, the groups aimed to show how much waste is produced in a short period of time. By doing this, they hope it will help change people’s perspectives on what is thrown away every day.
“Together, we can make a difference,” said Chenxi “Ellen” Liu ’20, the president of Green Knights. She hopes that World Cleanup Day is the starting point of helping people to pay more attention to what is happening to the planet on which they live.
