On Saturday, November 10, Marianapolis hosted the NEPSTA Division IV Cross Country Championships with 41 schools attending from across New England.
The first race of the day was girls’ varsity with 121 competitors. In first place overall and first for the team was Sydney Masciarelli '21 with a time of 17:51, the current course record. In second for the team and 14th overall was Rachel Ullstrom '21 (23:42), followed in 31st place by Olivia Panagiotou '19 (25:22), Captain Molly Romprey '19 in 53rd place (26:51), Sarah Zhang '20 in 98th place (31:05), Kiersten Haviland '21 in 114th place (33:31) and Maura Hoban '21 in 116th place (34:32). The team placed fourth out of 14 scoring teams.
The second race of the day was boys’ varsity with 208 competitors. In first place for the team and third place overall was Sal Masciarelli '21 with a time of 18:01. In second for the team and 18th overall was Chase Courville '19 (19:22) followed in 20th by Zach Stoddard '22 (19:30), Spencer Courville '22 in 63rd (21:19), Sam Roy '19 in 78th (21:43), Riley Martin '21 in 80th (21:46), and Brian Woz '20 in 109th (22:56). The team placed fifth out of 29 scoring teams.
Though the season has ended for most of the team, Sydney Masciarelli, Sal Masciarelli, and Zach Stoddard will continue on to the All-Star race held at St. Mark's School on November 17, at which the top 20 finishers from all four NEPSTA division championships will compete. From there, Sal and Sydney will head to the Footlocker Northeast Regional Championships on November 24 at Van Cortlandt Park in New York. Top ten finishers at regionals will qualify to compete at the Footlocker National Cross Country Championships at Balboa Park in San Diego, California.
