Luke L. '26 Receives Vista Higher Learning Future Language Educator Scholarship
Congratulations to Luke L. ‘26 on winning a Vista Higher Learning Future Language Educator Scholarship for the 2024-2025 academic year! Olé!

Vista Higher Learning partnered with the Northeast Conference on the Teaching of Foreign Languages (NECTFL) organization for this particular scholarship. These scholarships are designed to support students who are or who might be considering a career in language education. They aim to encourage and empower future language teachers by providing them with the necessary resources to complete their education.

Mr. Keith O’Hara, a member of our Marianapolis Spanish faculty, has enjoyed having Luke as a student in AP Spanish class. Luke has certainly made him proud this year through his presentations, travels, and captivating news.

“Now more than ever, we need students, like Luke, dedicated to the pillars of language teaching: cultural literacy, tolerance, appreciation, and the celebration of diversity and understanding in all its many forms,” says O’Hara. “He has the passion, linguistic skills and the character to succeed as a future teacher tomorrow and as a responsible multilingual global citizen today.”

Luke has been studying Spanish since 5th grade. Through his studies and real-world experience, he has enjoyed being able “to understand millions of people and really connect with them and understand their lifestyles and especially cultures using their mother tongue."

This summer, Luke plans on studying abroad in Spain for two weeks! The scholarship will provide him with the opportunity to explore many different areas of Spain, including Toledo, Madrid, Barcelona, Sevilla, and more.

We cannot wait to hear all about Luke’s excursions and are so proud of his commitment to gaining a greater understanding of the Spanish language and culture!
