Senior Brianne Rett signed to compete for track and field for Le Moyne College on April 20.
Rett has been a member of the Marianapolis track and field team since her sophomore year and is a captain. She currently throws shotput and discus. In college, she’ll be looking to add hammer throw to her events.
In choosing Le Moyne, Rett stated that she had already been interested in the school before she considered joining athletically. The ability to continue throwing was a strong bonus.
“When I was starting to narrow it down, I went on their track and field roster and saw that there were throwers, and so I reached out to the coach,” Rett said. “He said as long as I was willing to work hard, and so I was like, ‘Ok, now I can throw and go to the school I love.’”
In 2019, Rett competed in shot put in the Scholastic Division at the Massachusetts Bay State Games. She placed third with a throw of 28’.5” and qualified for the 2021 State Games of America. During the pandemic, Rett also competed in the MileSplit Virtual Meet using the shotput pit her family built in their backyard.
“Brianne is a student of throwing and a wonderful ambassador of our program and the sport. She pushes herself each day to improve and positively motivates those around her to do the same. As a captain of the Track and Field Team, Brianne has warmly welcomed so many to the roster and supported them finding success and a home in the program,” head coach David DiCicco said. “We are excited for Brianne to continue her throwing career and looking forward to cheering her on and many PRs to come."
One of the things Rett looks forward to the most in collegiate track is the opportunity to continue being part of a team.
“That was one of the biggest deciding factors when I was choosing between a college,” Rett said. “I can’t picture myself not being on a team.”
Le Moyne College is a Division II school, competing as part of the Northeast-10 Conference.
