AP Art Students Featured in the MoCA Westport High School Art Exhibition

AP Art Students Featured in the MoCA Westport High School Art Exhibition
On Thursday, January 18, 2024, our AP Art students and Ms. Tourtellotte traveled to the Museum of Contemporary Art (MoCA) in Westport, CT, for the opening night of the exhibition “Sixties MOD: Through the Lens of Icons.” Six of our AP Art students have artwork being represented in this exhibition! They have each worked incredibly hard to create pieces that explore what the icons of the 1960s mean to them and their impact on the world. Various mediums in the exhibition include photography, painting, drawing, sculpture, and video.

AP Art Students Represented in the Exhibition:

Lillian Belsito ‘24: “Julie" - A Julie Andrews charcoal drawing.

Astrid Bidwell ‘25: “Blossoming Rebels" - A red, mixed-media piece representing women's rights.

Dan Quynh “Sarah” Ha ’24: “The Scarlett Village" - An oil painting of a Vietnamese landscape.

Rebecca Lamarche ‘24: “Untitled" - A rainbow, mixed-media piece depicting 1960s events.

Sydney Lavallee ‘24: “Point Pleasant's Sweetheart" - A comic drawing of the Mothman.

Luciana Najjar ‘24: “The Soul of Lebanon" - Watercolor portraits with song lyrics and Lebanese writing.

A couple of fun facts! Lamarche was interviewed by the gallery about her piece and Bidwell’s artwork was acknowledged by Thiel Design (architectural designer) on her Instagram account. Thiel Design visited the gallery and for a moment, it was as if her sister was brought back to life thanks to Bidwell’s piece. It caught her eye because it referenced a poster her sister made and carried in the First Women’s March in NYC. What a remarkable legacy to continue!

MoCA Westport created a digital exhibition magazine including artist statements and interviews. Be sure to check it out here
