AP Art Showcase Opens with Work by Sherry W. ’27
This spring, Marianapolis is celebrating student creativity through our AP Art Showcase, an ongoing exhibition featuring the work of AP Studio Art students.

The first featured artist is Sherry W. ’27 from Chengdu, China. Sherry’s artwork showcases her use of color and expressive techniques, drawing inspiration from both her cultural background and her experiences studying in Connecticut.

Since arriving in New England, she has noticed striking differences between Thompson, CT, and her home city in China.

“My city is always overcast,” she says, “while here it's always sunny, and I can always see the sunset. I find the scenery here very interesting, and the seasons are very distinct. These landscapes motivate me to draw.”

Sherry primarily works with watercolors and acrylic markers, materials she values for their unique visual effects. Watercolors allow her to create soft blending techniques that are difficult to achieve with other mediums, while acrylic markers help her capture vibrant colors and stylistic details inspired by artists such as Claude Monet.

Her artwork explores a variety of subjects, including portraits, landscapes, and anime-style illustrations. She enjoys closely observing people’s expressions and movements, as well as natural scenes at different times of day, from forests and meadows to rivers and sunsets.

Through her work, Sherry hopes to share the world as she experiences it.

“I share the things I see with others through drawing,” Sherry says. “I can use paintings in any different form and color to convey different emotions, using them as my language.”

Members of our Marianapolis community are encouraged to stop by the display outside the Stuart Family Dining and Community Room by March 21 to experience Sherry’s artwork. The AP Art Showcase will continue over the coming weeks, featuring additional student artists and providing new opportunities to celebrate the creativity and talent of Marianapolis artists.
