A. Alicandro '24 Wins at National Prep Wrestling Championships

Sophomore Abigail Alicandro from Oxford, MA, won first in her weight class at the National Prep Wrestling Championships on February 26.

Leading up to her National win, Alicandro also won the NEPSAC Girls’ Wrestling Tournament, the New England High School Championships, and the Eastern Independent League Co-Ed Division without allowing a single point.

“I have coached wrestling for over 30 years, and I can honestly say I do not remember an athlete that I have coached who has dominated their opponents at this level,” Wrestling Head Coach Chris Miller said.  “Add in that she is not only an excellent athlete, but also is an outstanding teammate and leader, and it is pretty evident that we have a person who exemplifies all that Marianapolis is about.”

With the school wrestling season ending, Alicando will be returning to her club and tournament season. Her goal is to see even further improvement in national tournaments and duels.

“I love that I am seeing results, and it's acknowledgment that I'm improving,” Alicandro said. “My goal is to continue to get better so I can see even more success in my future.”
