Patrick Fitzgibbons ’24 Signs NLI with Assumption University

Patrick Fitzgibbons, a post-graduate from Hadley, Massachusetts, signed his National Letter of Intent to play baseball for Assumption University on Saturday, November 11.

Although Fitzgibbons has only been playing baseball for a short period of time at Marianapolis, he has already made quite an impact on the baseball field.

“I picked up my first bat when I was 2 or 3 years old and played wiffle ball with my Dad,” says Fitzgibbons. “I really started actually playing games when I was 5 or 6 with the Hadley Cal Ripken League.”

Baseball has meant a lot to Fitzgibbons over the years and while he does enjoy “hitting,” what he “really enjoy[s] is how much of a mental game it really is. Yogi Berra once said, ‘Baseball is 90% mental.’”

The upcoming spring season will be Fitzgibbons’ first and last time playing baseball at Marianapolis before graduating. He says, “I’m looking forward to having an exciting and successful season with these guys. We have some really talented players and I can’t wait to see what we can do as a team.”

Marianapolis Varsity Baseball head coach Nick Buoniconti describes Fitzgibbons as a “humble player [and] great teammate who gives 110% all the time. I absolutely love how he plays the game.”

Assumption is lucky to have Fitzgibbons on their roster next year. He shares that, “when I toured at Assumption, I got that tight community feel. The coaches giving me this opportunity made this decision fairly easy for me. I’m most looking forward to meeting the guys on the team and creating more friendships. I’m excited to see college-level competition as well.”

Assumption University, located in Worcester, Massachusetts, is a Division II school playing in the Northeast-10 Conference.
